What if phone/tablet system update fails

What if phone/tablet system update fails

Check the following items before performing the troubleshooting:

  1. Ensure that your phone/tablet has not been rooted. A rooted phone/tablet may fail a HOTA update or may not be able to receive HOTA update notifications.
  2. Ensure that your phone/tablet has sufficient power. You can't update your phone/tablet if the battery level is below 20%. It is recommended that you fully charge your phone/tablet before the update.
  3. Check whether a memory card is installed on your phone/tablet. If so, remove the memory card. The HOTA update may fail when your phone/tablet and the memory card are incompatible. Supported memory card brands may vary according to your device.
  4. Ensure that your phone/tablet's internal storage space or space on the memory card is sufficient. If insufficient, clear phone/tablet data or data on the memory card before the update.
  5. Ensure that the update process is not manually interrupted. For example, the update process will stop if you press and hold the Power button for 10 seconds or longer.
  6. Check whether the Power, Volume up, and Volume down buttons are functioning properly, and whether they can pop back up after pressed. Also check whether your phone/tablet is water damaged. If so:
    1. Your phone/tablet may enter the forcible update screen, and a "Software install failed" message is prompted together with a red exclamation mark. Alternatively, the phone/tablet enters the Recovery screen after being powered on. (The phone/tablet has unexpectedly entered the update screen, which does not indicate an update issue. Please restart your phone/tablet and see if you can access the phone/tablet's home screen.)
    2. If your phone/tablet still does not display the home screen, back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Honor Customer Service Center for assistance.

Unable to download the update package

If the progress bar is stuck, or a message is displayed indicating that the download fails, the installation package fails to be verified, the server is temporarily unavailable, or the installation package fails to be parsed, the issue may lie with the network. To resolve this issue, perform the following:

  1. Open Settings, search for and access Apps, locate and access System update or Software update, and go to Storage > CLEAR DATA. Then restart your phone/tablet. Make sure that your phone/tablet has a stable Internet connection, and try downloading the update package again.
  2. If the issue persists, back up your data, and restore your phone/tablet to its factory settings.

Failed to install an update package

If your phone/tablet is not updated after installing the downloaded update package, the update package may have been incompletely downloaded due to network faults. To resolve this issue, perform the following:

Magic UI 2.0.1 or later: Open Settings, search for and access Software update, and touch Check for updates. Then download the update package and install it.

Perform the following to troubleshoot:

  1. It takes some time for an update to complete, especially when there are a large number of apps on the phone/tablet or when the update package is large. Please be patient, and wait for the update to complete.
  2. If you press and hold the Power button or perform other operations on your phone/tablet during the update, your phone/tablet will re-enter the update screen. Please be patient, and wait for the update to complete.
  3. Then use the full package to perform the update.
