How to migrate, back up, and restore WeChat chat history?
Solution
You can go to WeChat to check the methods (WeChat > Me>Settings > Help & Feedback > How do I back up/restore chat history through WeChat for Windows/Mac?), or follow the steps below:
- Migrate chat history to another phone
To migrate chat history to another phone, make sure two phones are connected to the same network.
Go to WeChat > Me > Settings > Chat > Chat History Migration & Backup > Migration > Migrate to mobile/tabletWeiXin > Select chats to migrate> Start. The screen will display a QR code. Then, log in to this WeChat account on another phone and scan the QR code.
- As you log in to the same WeChat account, the existing data will not be overwritten but merged with new data transferred.
- During migration, you can log in to the same WeChat account on another phone to scan the QR code, which will not force you to sign out on the current phone.
- To avoid data loss, make sure the network condition is good during migration.
- Migrate chat history to computer
You can back up WeChat chat history on your phone to your computer. Then, when chat history is accidentally deleted on the phone, you can restore it from your computer backup. Before backup, make sure your phone and computer are connected to the same network.
Log in to your WeChat account on the computer, tap 
in the lower left corner > Migration & Backup > Backup & Restore > Back up to computer, select the chats you want to back up, and follow the instructions on the screen.
The chat history file cannot be opened on the computer. You can only access it by restoring it to the phone.
- Restore chat history from computer to phone
Make sure your phone and computer are connected to the same network. Log in to your WeChat account on the computer, tap 
in the lower left corner > Migration & Backup > Backup & Restore > Restore to phone, then select the chats you want to restore.
