A laptop cannot be unlocked using the fingerprint

A laptop cannot be unlocked using the fingerprint

If your laptop cannot be unlocked using the fingerprint, please troubleshoot as follows:

Please lock the screen and then try to unlock it again

The unlocking fails maybe because the fingerprint image collected by the fingerprint sensor is of low quality. Please press Win+L to lock the screen and then try to unlock it again.

Restart your laptop and unlock it again

This problem may be caused by FingerPrint or system processing delay. Please wait 1 minute and check whether the problem is eliminated. If the problem persists, restart your laptop and try again.

Please press the power button to wake up the screen

When the computer is powered off or in sleep mode for a long time, you need to press the power button to wake up the screen.

A laptop cannot be unlocked using the fingerprint, prompting that the PIN code needs to be entered

  1. Check whether there are foreign objects such as water and sweat stains on the fingers and fingerprint key. If yes, clean the foreign objects first.
  2. Check whether the area of the fingerprint entered for unlocking is insufficient. Delete the original fingerprint and re-enter it, increase the unlocking area, and then verify the fingerprint.
  3. If the fingerprint is not recognized more than three consecutive times, the PIN code needs to be re-entered. Please enter the PIN code.

If the problem persists, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, restart your laptop by pressing the power button again, and unlock it with the fingerprint.

Check whether the PIN code has been changed

Due to system security rules stipulated by Microsoft, when you change the PIN code, the previously entered fingerprint template becomes invalid. Please re-enter your fingerprint after you change the PIN code.

Operation method: Click the Windows icon and choose Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options. On the displayed page, change the PIN code or re-enter your fingerprint.

Check whether the PC Manager is uninstalled

If yes, the FingerPrint cannot be updated. Please visit the official website of HONOR to download and install the latest PC Manager and upgrade the FingerPrint in time.

Please update the FingerPrint Driver to the latest version

Choose System optimization > Drive management > Check in the PC manager to upgrade the fingerprint driver.

Download the latest fingerprint driver from the official HONOR website, then install it.

Update the system to the latest version

Check whether the system is Windows 10/Windows 11. If no, update the system to the latest version. After the update, restart your laptop and try again.

Reinstall the FingerPrints

  1. If the problem persists, the FingerPrint may fail, and please visit the official website of HONOR to download the FingerPrints.

    1. If a message prompts that your laptop should be restarted during the installation, please restart your laptop.
    2. If you fail to find the proper FingerPrints on the official website, you can install the FingerPrints through the PC Manager.
    3. Some FingerPrints cannot be downloaded from the official website, because they are integrated in the laptop system and cannot be uploaded to the official website. Please update the FingerPrints through the PC Manager.
    4. If you fail to update the FingerPrints through the PC Manager, please back up your data and press F10 to restore the laptop to factory settings. Alternatively, back up your data and take the purchase voucher and the laptop to a service center authorized by HONOR to re-install the system of your laptop.

    1. System restoration will delete all data in the C drive, and files in other drives will be retained. To avoid data loss, it is recommended that you back up C drive data including desktop files, downloads, documents, and other personal files. Remember the Microsoft account and password that activated the Office components on your computer.
    2. Office components do not expire after the computer is restored to factory settings. Enter the Microsoft account and password bound when activating Office components for the first time, and reactivate Office components. Different versions of the F10 function operation interface may be slightly different, operate according to the actual interface prompts.
  2. After the FingerPrints are installed, right-click the Windows icon and choose Device Manager > Biometric devices. Check whether a yellow exclamation mark is displayed next to the FingerPrint under Biometric devices. If not, you can now enroll your fingerprint and use your fingerprint to unlock the system.
  3. If your laptop cannot be unlocked after the update of the FingerPrints, please troubleshoot by clicking Unable to use fingerprints to unlock the screen after a fingerprint driver is installed.

Please Free up space for the drive C

  1. This happens because of insufficient space in the drive C. In this case, newly enrolled fingerprints cannot be saved.
  2. Enroll your fingerprint again. Click the Windows icon and then the Settings icon, click Accounts > Sign-in options, remove enrolled fingerprints under Fingerprint. Enroll your fingerprint again.

If the problem cannot be solved using the preceding methods, please back up your data and take the purchase voucher to a service center authorized by HONOR for testing.
