Face unlock fails
Face unlock fails |
If Face unlock often fails when the screen is on, it may be caused by the following reasons:
1 Factors that may affect face unlock:
Face unlock may fail if the front camera is covered or faulty, your face is covered, the distance or angle of your face to the device is out of range, your face slightly changes when you are lying down, or you are closing your eyes or not looking at your phone. It is recommended that you do the following when using Face unlock:
- Ensure that the front camera is clean and not covered.
- Do not cover your face with a hat, mask, or scarf.
- It is recommended that you use your fingerprint or password to unlock your phone when the ambient light is too bright or too dark.
- Adjust the distance between your face and device to about 20–50 cm (7.87–19.69 in.), and face the camera straight on.
- Lying down may slightly change the appearance of your face, and due to security reasons, it may reduce the unlock success rate. It is recommended that you use your fingerprint or password to unlock your phone in this case.
- If Require eye contact is supported and has been enabled, you will not be able to unlock the screen when you close your eyes or do not look at your phone. You can also disable Require eye contact if necessary.
- Require eye contact is only supported on certain phone models. If Require eye contact is not displayed in Settings, it indicates that it is not supported on your phone.
- Disabling Require eye contact will help your phone recognize your face faster even when you have closed your eyes, but security may be compromised.
2 Check whether the front camera functions properly
Open the camera and check whether the front camera functions properly. If not, facial data cannot be recorded.
3 Ensure that the enrolled facial data is correct
Search for and access the Face recognition/Face unlock screen in Settings, then follow the onscreen instructions to enroll your face. Place the whole face in the circle to enroll the data properly. Enrollment may fail if not all of your face is detected.
4 Check whether the number of unlocking failures reaches the upper limit
For security purposes, Face unlock will be disabled for a short period of time if you fail to unlock the screen too many times. In this case, please enter your Password to unlock the screen.
5 Check whether your phone uses a third-party theme
Face unlock may fail if the third-party theme is not compatible with this feature. It is recommended that you use the default theme.
6 Check whether the problem is caused by the external environment
Face unlock may fail if your phone is in a low-temperature environment for a long time and the battery level is low. In this case, please use your password to unlock the screen. You can try using Face unlock again in an environment with a warmer temperature.
7 Face unlock may fail after burst shooting
Face recognition is not available when it is used immediately after burst shooting, as the camera is still processing the burst shots. Please use your fingerprint and password to unlock your phone, or wait for a while and try again.
8 The enrolled facial data is of low quality
If Face unlock fails too many times, please search for Delete facial data in Settings, delete the facial data, and enroll your face again in a well-lit environment (not exposed to direct sunlight or too dark), with a clean camera and your face uncovered.
9 If the issue persists
If the issue persists, back up your data and take your phone and proof of purchase to an authorized Honor Customer Service Center for assistance.
