The phone system lags or freezes

The phone system lags or freezes

It is normal if the phone freezes for a short period of time after a system update. If this is not the case, perform the following steps to troubleshoot.

Reason why your phone may freeze after a system update: The phone system optimizes apps after the phone has just been updated. During this time, your phone may be overloaded and subsequently start to lag. It is recommended that you charge your phone for at least 2 hours with the screen off after a system update and then restart your phone to ensure that the optimization is complete.

1 Check whether the mobile phone is downloading, copying, or transferring files

If your phone is uploading or downloading files, pictures, videos, or apps, copying data (such as from Files), or transferring data (such as via Phone Clone and Honor Share), it may take a while for your phone to respond. In this case, wait for the task to complete or stop the task.

You can swipe down from the status bar to view the file upload, download, and transfer progress.

2 Restart your phone

Restart your phone and try again. It is recommended that you restart your phone every two or three days, as this clears the cache and prevents lagging.

3 Check whether your phone is overheating

The performance of the phone deteriorates and the phone responds slowly when overheating occurs. It is advised that you avoid using your phone while it is charging, reduce the screen brightness, and disable power-intensive apps and functions, such as Bluetooth and NFC.

4 Check the storage card

  1. Too many files in the memory card may slow down read and write speeds. It is advised that you keep at least 10% of the storage memory available. You can clear unnecessary files in the memory card or back up important data and format the memory card.
  2. The memory card may be faulty. If the phone has prompted you that the memory card is faulty, replace the memory card at your earliest convenience.
  3. If your phone's default storage location is a memory card, set it to internal storage and try again.

5 Disable Power saving mode and ensure the battery level is sufficient

If Power saving mode or Ultra power saving mode is enabled or the battery level is low, your phone will restrict some phone features from working in order to extend the battery life. It is recommended that you disable Power saving mode by going to Settings > Battery > Power saving mode/Ultra power saving mode. Also, keep the battery level above 20%.

6 Clean up storage space

If your phone's RAM or storage space is insufficient, the app may freeze. Go to Phone Manager and clean up your phone's storage space.

  • Open Phone Manager and touch OPTIMIZE. After the optimization is complete, Phone Manager will display the results and setting recommendations. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete configuring the settings.

  • Open Phone Manager and touch Cleanup. After the scan is complete, touch Clean next to the items to be cleaned. Delete redundant files or uninstall apps that are not frequently used, so as to maintain space of at least 10 GB.

7 Uninstall any third-party phone management apps

Uninstall any third-party management apps installed on your phone, as they may clash with the pre-installed Phone Manager app and cause lagging.

8 Update the system version

  • If your phone has been rooted, reinstall the system to cancel the root status.
  • If the phone still responds slowly, make sure your phone system is up to date, because the phone performance will be improved in the latest version.

9Factory data reset

Back up important data and perform Factory data reset, and see whether the issue is resolved.

10 If the issue persists...

If the issue persists, back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Honor Customer Service Center for assistance.

It is recommended that you charge your phone at night or charge your phone for more than 40 minutes when the screen is off to allow your phone to defragment memory and solve the problem.
