We are committed to the principle of reducing the impact on the environment
while providing high-quality products and services to hundreds of millions of consumers.
Reduce carbon emissions by 88% against 2022 and use 100% renewable energy
Achieve emission peak
Reduce carbon emissions by
36% against 2022
We insist on green design,
reducing resource consumption,
and extending the product life cycle.
While bringing ultimate technology experience to consumers,
we are committed to reducing the impact of the planet.
In 2023, we optimized product packaging,
which reduced about 655 tons of CO2 emissions.
HONOR adheres to lightweight, small, harmless, ease-to-collect, and environmentally friendly packaging design concept, and are committed to reducing resource consumption.
In 2023, the volume of the HONOR X8a packaging box in the European market decreases by 51% compared to products shipped to other regions, and the weight decreases by 31%. This measure is equivalent to reducing 222.3 tonnes of carbon emissions.
We adopt a simpler and more robust integrated origami packaging scheme for laptops. Carton boxes have been canceled for transportation, which reduces CO2 emissions by a total of 341 tons in 2023.
We digitize product instructions, including “Tips ,” to reduce the paper usage of traditional instruction manuals. We minimize the paper content within regulatory limits, annually avoiding the cutting of approximately 3,500 adult trees and reducing 43.42 tonnes of carbon emissions.
We replace the original BOPP full packaging film for mobile phones with biodegradable and recyclable greaseproof paper made of matte fiber to reduce the use of plastic in the packaging.The rate of plastic reduction in the packaging for our products in the European market has increased from 95% to 98%;
We have incorporated bio-based plastics primarily derived from castor oil into over 20 product components, including the mainboard bracket, to reduce the use of petroleum-based plastics. This measure is equivalent to reducing 35.5 tonnes of carbon emissions.
We have replaced the original PET anti-tamper labels with biodegradable high-density fiber labels, which are made from high-strength virgin fibers arranged in an oriented manner; the bare device protection for HONOR X8a in the European market has transitioned from PE bags to recyclable copperplate paper label film.
The color box packaging and product manuals of our products are printed with soy ink, which can not only reduce the harm to human health and the consumption of petroleum resources, but also facilitate the recycling of packaging materials. In 2023, we replaced traditional ink printing with soy ink printing, leading to an estimated annual reduction of around 12.7 tonnes of carbon emissions.
We value the conservation of forest resources and biodiversity, and use environmentally friendly packaging materials. The gift box packaging of HONOR Magic3, Magic V, HONOR Watch GS 3, and other products has passed FSC certification. The mobile phone trays of HONOR Magic series products are made from bagasse, and the plastic protective film of chargers and data cables is replaced with paper.
The longer the product is used, the less
resources are consumed. In China, the
Honor phone replacement cycle is up to 26.4
months which is longer than the average
replacement time.
Durability is one of the important criterias for HONOR product design. We have done complete machine and parts reliability tests and prolonged the service life of products by assessing durability from all aspects.
We have set up a professional reliability laboratory to simulate the application scenarios of various products, done complete machine and parts reliability tests, and prolonged the service life of products by assessing durability from all aspects. We have considered scenarios where Magic V foldable phones are being folded and formulated strict life requirements for bending. For the cover glass, we have developed and used the Ceramic Shield glass to greatly improve the anti-drop ability, thus minimizing the replacement of parts and ensuing that users can use the product longer.
As of 2023, we have collected and
disposed about 2,185 tons of electronic
waste through our own channels.
We adhere to green design concept at the outset of product design. From the selection of raw materials to the recycling and disposal of waste, we manage the entire product life cycle to minimize the impact on the environment. As of 2023, Honor has collected and treated about 2,185 tons of electronic waste through its own channels.
Honor will hand over used mobile phones to qualified third-party recycling companies for disposal through trade-in services. At present, the official recycling channels of Honor include online platform and offline stores. Users can go to service stores or to Honor Mall to have their mobile phones valuated and place orders. Users with eligible devices can enjoy trade-in services. Unused 3C digital products, such as mobile phones, PCs, and tablets, whatever the brand is, can be used as cash to purchase new Honor products. Honor provides one-stop recycling services, such as price estimates of used machines, SF Express free door pick-up (for pick-up orders placed in Honor Mall), professional quality inspection, and privacy clearance.
On the basis of meeting the requirements
of international standards, we has
formulated higher enterprise standards.
Since 2016, we have eliminated the use of
around 4,440 tons of hazardous
substances from our products.
On the basis of meeting the requirements of international standards, Honor has formulated higher enterprise standards. We have removed the following six potentially hazardous substances from Honor mobile phones, tablets and other products: Chlorine, brominated flame retardants, PVC, beryllium and beryllium compounds, phthalates, and Sb2O3. In addition, we have tested dozens of material formulations with multiple material suppliers to ensure that power cables for all Honor phones and tablets are halogen-free. Since 2016, we have eliminated the use of around 4,440 tons of hazardous substances and materials from our products.
At present, a total of 128 models of Honor phones and tablets have obtained CQC environmental protection grade A certification, two models of products have obtained China Environmental Labeling Product Certification.
We insist on energy conservation and emission reduction,
focus on environmental protection during production and operation
and reduce carbon emissions and environmental footprints.
In 2023, we gradually increased the use of
clean energy in our operation, resulting in
a total usage of over ten million kWh of
clean energy and a gradual increase in the
usage ratio to 8%. Every step counts
towards covering a thousand miles. We
will continue to drive energy conservation,
emissions reduction, and the use of clean
energy to achieve our carbon neutrality goal.
We deploy energy management systems
to monitor and identify potential energy-
saving opportunities, and promptly
implement corrective measures to
enhance energy usage efficiency. Starting
from key energy-consuming equipment,
we drive the implementation of multiple
energy-saving technological
transformation projects.
In 2023, the average electricity
consumption per person in the office
parks decreased about 3% compared to 2022.
Honor is committed to provide a green and environmental friendly working environment for employees, and has considered environmental protection during office location selection, decoration, furniture selection, and daily operation. Furthermore, we are actively exploring the possibilities in increasing the use of renewable energy and reducing the carbon emissions of campus.
Learn MoreWe have considered environmental protection design when selecting office locations. For example, Beijing office is located in Vanke Lake International which has obtained the LEED Gold certification, and Shenzhen office is based in New Generation Industrial Park which has obtained the Two-Star Green Building Evaluation Label.
We adopt strict environmental protection standards when selecting office furniture: the furniture shall use materials that meet with E0-class environmental standards. Before the office is put into use, a third-party professional company is arranged to conduct office air treatment and environment tests. The office can be put into actual use only when the air quality test is passed.
We have incorporated energy-saving requirements into the design and construction of campus at the planning stage. For example, we have set up energy monitoring and management systems, such as the advanced building automation system, chiller plant control system, air compressor group control system, and energy management system in HONOR Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park in Pingshan District, which ensures efficient operation of various equipment and facilities.
During daily operation, we actively carry out energy conservation and consumption reduction activities and continuously optimize the operation and management of facilities by establishing energy ledgers and monitoring and analyzing energy consumption data to reduce energy consumption.
He who travels alone goes fast, but he who travels in company goes far.
We insist on cooperating with our industry partners in protecting the
environment and preserving our home.
