Breathtaking 48 MP Images Shot on the HONOR 9X

The HONOR 9X has finally arrived, bringing with it a 48 MP rear camera that boasts a triple-lens setup and an f/1.8 aperture.

That's the bit you've probably heard about already. What you might not know though is that the HONOR 9X has a cool 48 MP resolution mode, which captures photos in amazing, full 48-megapixel detail. Having tried it out for a few days, I'd like to tell you a bit about it.

In case you didn't know, the megapixel specs for most phones are different from the actual resolution of the pictures you take with the camera. For example, on 24 MP camera phones, the images are usually done with 10 MP (3648 x 2736, 3–5 MB). On the 9X, 12 MP (4000 x 3000, 4–8 MB) is the default mode, and the one HONOR recommends, but you can also manually set it to 48 MP mode (8000 x 6000, 10–20 MB) if you're looking to get sharper detail, even when you're zoomed in.

To activate 48 MP shooting, touch the Settings icon in the top right corner of the camera interface, go to the Resolution section and choose 48MP:

Just remember that when you're in 48MP mode you can't use the zoom, and the extremely handy AI scene recognition will be disabled, as will the moving pictures and burst shooting features. This means the high-res mode isn't necessarily that practical for everyday use.

BUT… if you come across a gorgeous scene, or want to really capture the colours in a beautiful sunset, 48MP mode can be really useful, and bring everything to life in much sharper detail, so you can blow up your photos and hang them in your home or office.
