我的荣耀 开启荣耀之旅
Dear HONOR Fans,
We have exciting news! The SpO2 monitor is available on the HONOR MagicWatch 2 from April 14th via an OTA upgrade! You can get it by following the update notification on your Huawei Health App, then enabling the new feature there.
If you aren't familiar with SpO2, you're hardly alone, and we'll fill you in!
Short takeaway: It’s an important health indicator.
Longer explanation: "S" refers to saturation, "P" pulse, "O2" oxygen - hence "SpO2", which indicates the percentage of oxygen-carrying red blood cells within the total red cell count in your blood. In practical terms, SpO2 tells you how well your respiratory and circulatory systems are working. It is considered one of five essential health indicators, along with pulse rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate and body temperature. The average SpO2 reading for a healthy adult is 96%, and the higher the value, the better.
The human body needs oxygen to function properly as it supplies muscles with the energy they need. The current COVID-19 pandemic is caused by a virus that attacks the respiratory system, and thus SpO2 readings can actually be as critical as body temperature for identifying potential cases. The HONOR MagicWatch 2 provides for nearly instant SpO2 readings on command, empowering you to take charge of your health at a time when personal wellbeing has never been more important.
Even when COVID-19 is no longer an urgent concern, most people can benefit from regularly monitoring their blood oxygen levels in daily life, especially the following demographic groups:
• Immuno-compromised individuals with an underlying condition (heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and/or respiratory syndromes, etc.):
As explained above, SpO2 provides a quick snapshot for the state of one's respiratory and immune systems.
• Individuals aged 60+:
A simple fact of life is that our immune system will weaken gradually with age. Regular SpO2 checks offer peace of mind, and a potential advance warning in the event of a serious health issue.
• Snorers:
Snoring happens when the sleeper is short of breath or breathing irregularly. SpO2 readings provide a clearer view of how oxygen levels fluctuate during sleep, and whether snoring is an indicator for a more severe condition like sleep apnea.
• Outdoor enthusiasts, endurance athletes, and gym rats:
Real-time SpO2 tracking during workouts gives you a sense of how well your body is handling the changes in intensity or altitude, so that you can adjust accordingly.
• Individuals with busy work or study routines (12+ hours/day):
Brain work can be taxing on the body, as it consumes a lot of oxygen. If you use it that much, give it a proper checkup regularly, just in case.
• Long-term heavy drinkers:
The human body needs oxygen to convert alcohol into water and carbon dioxide, and shortness of breath is a direct symptom of excess alcohol consumption. But for those who're used to drinking like a fish, they've probably grown accustomed to mild breathing difficulties. An SpO2 monitor can help determine if and when the drinking habit has reached an unhealthy level.
We know many of you have been eagerly awaiting this so make sure you download the SpO2 monitor update on Huawei Health to use it on your HONOR MagicWatch 2!
