HONOR Phones Using the Latest Android OS

latest Android OS version-Pie

Want to know what is going on with the latest Android update? Fear not, this guide will give you the lowdown.

It's always exciting when Android gets updated. It usually comes with lots of juicy new features to get your teeth into, making your smartphone experience better as a consequence. So it's important to know which HONOR phones are using the latest Android OS, so that you can be sure that you are up to speed.

Let us first take a look at what is going on in the world of Android updates. Up until very recently, the latest and greatest version of Android was version 8.1. All versions of Android come with a codename based on foodstuffs, and version 8 and 8.1 were known as Oreo.

There is a new version of Android being rolled out at the moment, and that is version 9, better known as Android Pie. HONOR are using this new version to roll out the latest iteration of their well-regarded EMUI, which is based on Android and is the user interface found on HONOR phones.

EMUI has always been about having a great user interface that makes the experience of using a smartphone smarter, better and easier, but with the forthcoming update, HONOR will push the envelope of what is possible even further. Android 9 extends the groundwork that was started with 8.1 to allow a phone to learn and adapt to its user, instead of the other way round. The new version of EMUI will build on that basis and also include many other improvements, such as a leap in system operation and much reduced app startup times.

One of the standout features of EMUI 9.0 will be HiVision, which is designed to allow the application of Augmented Reality onto landmarks and paintings. This will make a holiday more culturally rich, seeing as how it will be possible to identify cultural artefacts without any manual intervention from the user.

HONOR will also be early adopters of Android's new digital well-being system, which is designed to make sure your devices aren't taking over your family's lives.

Of course, all this development takes time, and there is often a clamour from users to have the latest update before anyone else. But it is important to remember that stability is key. There is no point in just throwing out an update that has not been tested properly, after all!

Meanwhile, it's worthwhile looking at how things stand currently. The three HONOR phones running the current most powerful processor – the Kirin 970 chipset – are the HONOR 10, the HONOR View 10 and the HONOR Play. The good news is that all three of these phones are running Oreo and currently provide a solid and stable platform using that system.

Added to that is also the fact that the chip used in these phones features the flagship Neural Processing Unit, and these sorts of chips are big news in the Android Pie update. They allow a level of customisation of the user experience that was hitherto impossible using the previous generation of chips. The strong indications are that the Neural Processing hardware and Android Pie will go very nicely together.
