One of the most well-loved sports in our community and definitely the most exciting – basketball. Dunking like Lebron or simply splashing like Steph or Klay, hooping is not just about running and jumping, lots of precision goes into strategy, movements and most importantly, skill and technique when you’re ballin’ in the hood! Apart from being a fun get around with your best buds, regular ballin’ sessions have a lot of benefits like:

● Promoting cardiovascular health
● Boosting mental development

One of the best parts about basketball is that it doesn't take many people or much equipment to be played. All you need is a ball and at least a hoop, maybe sometimes a fitness tracker to help keep track of your performance. Simple ain’t it?

As basketball is a fast moving game that involves a lot of variety, including shooting, dribbling, passing, jumping, defending the perimeter and much more. To become a skilled basketball player, a few skills must be learned. One of the most important skills is the vertical jump. Better inbound and jumping capability makes for greater basketball shooter. Allow us to introduce you to a few easy jumping drills you can practice to get a huge boost in your performance.

1. Backboard Touches
Jump up and try to touch the backboard or rim. Jump 8 times in a row repeatedly without stopping in between.

2. Bench Jumps
Find a low bench or lay a board across a couple of bricks. Adjust the height as necessary, making it higher as you get better.

3. Kangaroo Jump
Take one step with your right leg, jump as high up as you can, and come down using your right leg only. Then switch the leg.

4. Wall Sit
Put your back against the wall and sit with your knees in a 90-degree angle like you are sitting in a chair.

5. One-Leg Jump
Jump as high as you can 10 times on your right leg and rest for 15 seconds.
