The Exchange mailbox is consuming data

After you clear your Exchange mailbox cache data, your phone will send regular update requests to the Exchange server, which will lead to data consumption.

The phone system is consuming data

Cause:

Some apps need to update their databases.

Solution:

  1. Go to Phone Manager > Blocked, touch in the upper right corner, and set Update number database to Wi-Fi only.
  2. Go to Virus scan > Settings and set VIRUS LIBRARY to Only update over Wi-Fi.

Alternatively, open Phone Manager, touch in the upper right corner, and go to Online virus scan/Auto-update cleanup database > Wi-Fi only.

  3. Disable the Internet access permission for apps that you don't use often.

Mobile data records listed on the bill from the user's carrier do not appear in Phone Manager

Problem:

After disabling Mobile data, the bill from the user's carrier indicates that a small amount of data has been consumed.

Cause:

When 4G is enabled, a small amount of data is consumed when your phone:
  1. Restarts.
  2. Switches between 3G and 4G networks.
  3. Enters or exits Airplane mode.

Solution:

  1. If the issue occurs with the primary SIM card, open Settings, search for and access Mobile network, and turn off Mobile network and Enable 4G.

  • Your carrier will charge you for this data, but it will not be listed in Phone Manager.
  • For detailed information about the consumed data, consult your carrier and ask for a detailed mobile data usage record.

The secondary SIM card is consuming data

Cause:

  1. After the secondary SIM card is registered on the 4G network, the wireless network will send special data packets to it whenever needed. As a result, the secondary SIM card will consume a small amount of data even when it is disabled.
  2. When receiving an MMS message, the secondary SIM card will consume data.
  3. For detailed information about the consumed data, consult your carrier and ask for a detailed mobile data usage record that will contain the websites or IP addresses responsible for the data consumption.

Solution:

  1. To prevent your secondary SIM card from consuming data in the preceding cases, disable 4G for it. To do so, open Settings, search for and access Dual SIM settings, and turn off Dual SIM 4G and Internet access during calls/Switch data connection during calls. Note that this operation will also disable VoLTE on your secondary SIM card.
  2. If you do not want the secondary SIM card to consume data when receiving MMS messages, perform the following:
    1. Contact your carrier to cancel the MMS service.
    2. Alternatively, disable the Internet access permission for Messaging. To do so, go to Phone Manager > Mobile data > Networked apps > System apps, find Messaging, and turn off the Mobile data switch for it.
  3. You can also contact your carrier to disable Internet access for the secondary SIM card.

Phone Manager indicates that an app denied access to Internet consumes data

Problem:

After the user goes to Phone Manager > Mobile data > Networked apps and disables the Internet access permission for an app, Phone Manager indicates that this app still consumes data.

Cause:

By design, some system-level services (such as Google-related services) are not controlled by the Internet access permission settings. This means that they can still consume data even when Mobile data and Background data are disabled.
