Incubating Mexican Youth Innovation, Supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

[September 12, 2024, Mexico City, Mexico] The opening ceremony of the Mexican national youth design competition, Diseña México, award-winning works in 2023 exhibition was held at the Franz Mayer Museum in Mexico City. Diseña México is a national design award in Mexico, aimed to empowering outstanding Mexican designs and incubating young designers' thoughts and innovations on topics such as ocean plastic reduction, urban construction, and sustainable development. It has received support from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Julio Frías Peña, Chairman of the Diseña México competition; Ginna López Chávez, representative of UNESCO in Mexico; Laura Cristina Figueroa Alcocer, Director of the World Design Organization (WDO) and Chairman of the Mexican National Design Agency; and Giovana Jaspersen, Director of the Franz Mayer Museum attended the ceremony. HONOR, as the partner of Diseña México, participated in the opening ceremony, delivered a speech, and cut the ribbon for the exhibition.

Practicing the concept of empowering sustainable development for young talents and the local contributions of HONOR. The HONOR Youth Awards were established in collaboration with Diseña México starting in 2023, including scholarships and HONOR smartphones to the winners. On April 29, 2024, Diseña México held the 2023 Diseña México award ceremony, where HONOR representatives attended and presented certificates and prizes to the winners of the "HONOR Youth Awards." Among them, two youth design projects, "CEM 02 Aguacero Rainwater Purifier" and "City Image Design of Puebla, Mexico," under the topics of environmental protection and water conservation, as well as urban cultural promotion, received unanimous praise from the jury.

At the opening ceremony, HONOR stated that empowering youth innovation and providing more platforms for young people to showcase themselves are key willingness of HONOR's youth empowerment strategy. HONOR is also hosting global competitions such as HONOR Talents Global Design Competition, which Diseña México as a partner, aimed at young talents worldwide. HONOR hope to provide future development opportunities for young talents through collaboration with their partners, universities, international organizations, and industry associations. HONOR representative said, "HONOR will continue to work with Diseña México to empower more local youth, combining technology and art to empower future youth innovation and support sustainable development goals."

About Diseña México Awards:

The National Design Award: Diseña México, is the most important design award in Mexico and aims to recognize good Mexican design and how with design we can raise the quality of life of the population and make companies and institutions more competitive. The Diseña México Award seeks to recognize companies, institutions and designers who have developed innovation through the strategic use of design, thus improving the quality of life of the population and raising the competitiveness of companies and institutions. The Award is supported by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), as well as by the representation of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Mexico. There are 7 categories and 9 special awards in which students and design professionals can participate. In 2023, the theme of the Special Award of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) is focused on the reducing ocean pollution of plastics.
