Hello Everyone
I bought an HONOR MagicBook 15 a while ago and using it as my daily driver. So I feel it's the right time to share my Review of the HONOR MagicBook 15 with you all, Among all three Models of the MagicBoooks my eyes were on the Pro variants but HONOR only launched the MagicBook 15 in my country at a very attractive price that led me to buy one.
I should start this review with a nice unboxing video, So here is an unboxing video of the MagicBook 15 made by me that I shared earlier but In case you missed watching it, Here it is again -
Other than MagicBook 15, we get the user manual, a 65-watt power adapter along the Type C to Type C cable.
Starting with the built quality, If we talk about the design and build quality, The HONOR MagicBook 15 looks absolutely beautiful. We get an aluminum body in this laptop, and I really love the blue edges. The HONOR logo on the laptop also has this amazing blue shiny finish. The laptop definitely feels premium and looks stunning, even though it's not a high-end laptop. Design and the build quality really match up to the premium segment.
This laptop is so lightweight and weighs just about 1.53 kilograms, the thickness of the laptop is just 16.9 mm with an exceptional screen to body ratio because of the narrow bezels that it has. The top and side bezels are only 5.3 mm that adds up more to its looks. I am fully satisfied by the looks of it and when the first time I unboxed it I felt like I put my money in the right place.
Let's talk about the ports that we have on this laptop. On the left side, we have a Type C port which is for charging and data transfer next to it a USB port located along with an HDMI port. On the right side, we have a headphone jack and one more USB port.
And one thing that I really want to highlight here is the Type C port because it's not so common at this price point and it proved so convenient for me, My phone, watch and earphones all charge through Type C and now my laptop too, So whenever I am out I don't need to take different chargers or cables for all my devices.
The 65-watt charging adapter itself has a smaller size than the adapter I used on my previous laptops, In the front of this 65-watt charging adapter they all feel like real bricks to me.
This laptop supports fast charging and Honor claims that you can charge the MagicBook up to 53% in just half an hour and I can verify that. I tried it several times and found that it really reach 50 percent of the battery in just a short span of 30 mins.
In the front just below the trackpad, we have a dual-mic setup and if we go to the bottom of the laptop, we have the rubber grips, a long air vent, and two speakers one on the left and one on the right side. Dual speakers at the bottom of this laptop perform pretty well. And they are definitely louder and clearer than some of the other laptops in this price range which are good for watching videos and listening to music.
There is also a built-in fingerprint scanner on the power button so it's dual purpose and it's good that we don't have to type our passwords every time we turn on the laptop. The fingerprint scanner placed very well on the top left side of the keyboard and I like its circular shape (Don't know why but I don't like the square-shaped scanners whether it's on any laptop or smartphone). as you the fingerprint sensor is on the power button. So as soon as you press the power button, it scans your fingerprint and takes you right to the desktop screen.
A 15.6 inches Full HD IPS 60-hertz display with great viewing angles and brilliant color accuracy of the MagicBook 15 totally impressed me. It has an anti-glare coating and also has the TÜV Rheinland certification that reduces excessive blue light for safer, more comfortable viewing. With all of these specs and the thin bezels, this display looks great and while watching videos on this screen I had a really nice experience.
Now come to the keyboard and the trackpad, there is no num pad and I think it is the right decision to not including it with the keyboard that's why we have here some nicely spaced keys and more aluminum body on both sides of the keyboard that looks better. Keys are not shiny they are matte although I am a fan of matte but I like a keyboard with shiny keys that's not a big deal because the response and the push feel of the keys are good.
The trackpad seems nice too, it's larger and placed in the center, I love the sensitivity and the feel of this trackpad. This a perfect trackpad for any laptop.
While telling you about the keyboard I missed really important information about it which is when you look at the top row or the function keys row you will find a camera button. HONOR MagicBook 15 laptop comes with a pop-up style camera, In my opinion, It is a really an amazing idea keeping in mind the privacy issues but the camera quality is not that much up to the mark and sometimes there are also issues regarding the camera angle.
Now come to the hardware configuration of this laptop. HONOR MagicBook 15 comes with AMD Ryzen 5 4500U processor or AMD Ryzen 5 3500U processor. I have the AMD Ryzen 5 3500U processor unit, it's a quad-core processor with eight threads. The base clock is at 2.1 gigahertz. And with the max boost, it can go up to 3.7 gigahertz with the AMD Radeon Vega 8 graphics support, which is good for casual gaming and day-to-day tasks.
And in terms of memory, we get the 8 GB DDR4 ram, and about the storage, we get the 256 GB PCIe SSD hard drive and I hope we can also replace and upgrade it. And I am not worried about the 256 GB space because I have a 1 TB external hard disk, we all know SSDs work fast, and together with DDR4 ram it really minimizes the boot time.
Battery backup on the MagicBook 15 is decent. It lasts nearly five hours of battery backup, which includes watching videos, surfing the internet, and other day-to-day tasks. But as I mentioned earlier it supports fast charging which is one of the best features we have on this MagicBook.
HONOR MagicBook 15 have a feature called the Magic Link which lets us connect our honor smartphone with this laptop, not just connect but a mobile size window pops up on your desktop and you can access your whole phone from there, any app any data whatever you want without any cables or touching your phone. which is proved really convenient for me, Its works pretty well with my both phones Honor 10 and The Honor 30 Pro Plus.
Next is performance. I am using this MagicBook for a few months now for writing assignments and articles, editing videos, watching videos, browsing the web, etc and the performance of this laptop for regular tasks is pretty good. I haven't noticed any issue while using MagicBook 15. 8 GB RAM is sufficient for all this work and the 256 GB SSD drive provides us a pretty great read and write speed.
If you want a good laptop for your work from home or you are a student and want a laptop for studies, then the MagicBook 15 will not disappoint you. I use this laptop continuously for around 8 to 10 hours daily which includes video calls, editing, typing, social media, etc and never noticed any performance degradation after the continuous usage even it does not heat that much, All thanks to the new fan design which is very efficient in heat dissipation without any noise, It is really silent.
It is not a gaming laptop but I do play games on it sometimes. We can do casual gaming as it has the AMD Radeon Vega graphics but then it will heat up a bit more and fast, that's normal.
`
Overall the HONOR MagicBook 15 is the best-looking laptop at this price point, along with the good design it offers us a nice hardware configuration too. IPS display on this laptop is ten on ten. this could be your best option for all your daily tasks. It is a well-built power-packed package and is high recommendable to the ones who are searching for a good budget laptop.
