Gallery crashes or stops responding
Gallery crashes or stops responding |
Perform the following to troubleshoot:
1. Check the memory card
If your phone has a memory card inserted, remove the card and open Gallery again. If the memory card is damaged or of poor quality, Gallery may be unable to read data from the card and stop responding when you view the items stored on the memory card.
2. Check the storage space
Go to
and check whether your phone's available storage space is greater than 10% (greater than 20% is preferred). If it isn't, free up some space.3. Clear Gallery data
- For Magic UI 4.X and 5.0: Open Settings, search and open Apps. In the top right corner, tap > Show system processes. Find Gallery/Media/Media Storage/Media Storage, then tap Gallery/Media/Media Storage/Media Storage > Storage > Clear data.
- For Magic UI 6.X/MagicOS 7.X/MagicOS 8.0: Open Settings, search and open Apps. In the top right corner, tap > Show system processes. Find Media Library, then tap Storage > Clear data.
- Restart the phone.
Note:
- When you have erased Gallery data, all favorite markers will be voided and will have to be added again.
- You may need to regenerate Highlights (Memories) and Discover (Create) albums. Here's how:
- For versions below MagicOS 8.0: Your Gallery will re-analyze your data to regenerate these albums. This process starts when your phone is charging, the screen is off, and the battery level is above 50%. It may take a while for the Hightlights and Discover albums to appear again.
- For versions above MagicOS 8.0: Go to Gallery > Albums, then swipe down a few times and select "Start now". Oncethe analysis is complete, the Hightlights and Discover albums will appear again.
4. Uninstall and update Gallery
Open Settings, search for Apps, find Gallery, touch the three-dot menu icon (if displayed) in the upper right corner, and touch Uninstall updates to restore Gallery to its factory settings.
This operation will not delete photos in Gallery, but will delete the My favorites, Highlights, and Discover albums. The Highlights and Discover albums will be automatically created when your phone has been charged for some time and its screen is off. You'll need to add photos to the My favorites album again.
5. Delete unneeded items in Gallery
If Gallery contains several thousand or more items, back them up to your computer, then delete photos that are not frequently used from your phone.
6. If the issue persists
Your phone's hardware may be faulty. Back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Honor Customer Service Center for assistance.
