My phone is unable to make or receive calls

My phone is unable to make or receive calls

Scenario 1: No calls can be made or received

  • Check if the VoLTE service has been enabled on your phone

If your phone has a 4G signal, it is recommended that you active the VoLTE service and use the VoLTE HD calls feature. To do this, perform the following:

    1. Contact your carrier to activate the VoLTE service for your SIM card.
    2. Swipe down from the status bar to open the notification panel, touch and hold the Mobile data icon, and turn on the VoLTE HD calls switch for the SIM card. (For some phone models, VoLTE is enabled by default, and there is no VoLTE HD calls switch. In this case, refer to the following to troubleshoot.)
    3. Restart your phone and try again.
  • Check whether your phone can switch to the 2G/3G network when making a call

If the signal icon displayed in the status bar but the phone cannot switch to the 2G/3G network when you are making a call, your current location may not have 2G or 3G network coverage. In this case, try making calls in another location.

  • Check whether the 2G/3G/4G signal is normal
    1. If the signal is poor, you may not be able to make or receive calls. If Emergency calls only is displayed in the status bar or a prompt indicating that the mobile network cannot be accessed when you are making a call, refer to The phone has an unstable signal to troubleshoot.
    2. If the signal is normal but you are prompted that the number (which is a working number) you dialed does not exist or the number is powered off, or you still cannot make or receive calls, the issue may lie with the local carrier's network. Please report the issue to the local carrier.
  • Check whether the call barring service has been activated for your SIM card

If the service is activated, some incoming or outgoing calls will be barred. For details, contact your carrier.

  • Reset the network settings of your phone

Open Settings and search for and access Reset network settings to reset the network settings of your phone. (Note: this will delete Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connection records.)

If the issue persists, back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an HONOR Authorized Service Center for assistance.

Scenario 2: Calls can be made but can't be received

  • Check whether Blocked has been enabled
  1. Open Dialer or Phone, touch in the upper right corner, access Blocked, touch Block rules, and check whether Blocklist has been set. Remove the numbers you want to receive calls from in Blocklist.
  2. Touch Call block rules to check whether corresponding switches for blocking calls have been turned on. Calls that meet certain conditions will not be able to connect. It is recommended that you disable one or more of them based on your needs. If you want all incoming calls to be connected properly, turn off all switches.
  3. Calls may have been blocked by a third-party phone manager app on your phone. If so, please uninstall these apps. You are advised to use the built-in Blocked feature of your phone. Open Dialer (or Phone) and go to > Blocked.
  • Check whether Call forwarding has been enabled for incoming calls

Check whether the Call forwarding icon is displayed in the status bar. If so, Call forwarding has been enabled and incoming calls will be forwarded to other numbers, resulting in you not being able to receive the calls. In this case, open Dialer or Phone, touch in the upper right corner, go to Settings > Call forwarding, disable Call forwarding, and try again.

  • Check whether VoLTE HD calls has been enabled

This issue is generally due to an error when your carrier activated the VoLTE service for you. Perform the following:

    1. Contact your local carrier to re-activate the VoLTE service.
    2. Alternatively, disable the VoLTE service as a temporary solution. To do so, swipe down from the top of the screen to display the notification panel, touch and hold the Mobile data icon, and disable VoLTE HD calls.

Scenario 3: Unable to call the number of a certain person and a prompt is played indicating that they are busy

Your number has been blocklisted by the other party.

Your number must be removed from the blocklist for you to make calls to the other party.
