We adhere to the principles of lightweight, miniaturized, harmless, and easily recyclable packaging, and are committed to removing plastics and increasing the use of green materials in packaging
Learn MoreIn 2024, we reduced about 1,093 tons of CO₂ emissions:
We have significantly optimized the volume and weight of product packaging boxes shipped to the European market. The average volume of mobile phone packaging boxes has dropped by about 50% , and the average weight has dropped by about 30%; the average volume of tablet product packaging boxes has dropped by about 30%, and the average weight has dropped by about 13%.These measures are equivalent to reducing 263.05 tonnes of carbon emission.
For laptop product packaging, we have adopted a more integrated and streamlined folding packaging solution that eliminates the use of color boxes. Products are directly shipped on pallets to ensure safe transportation while reducing paper usage. This measure is equivalent to reducing 375.1 tonnes of carbon emissions.
We have embedded product instructions in electronic forms such as “Phone Tricks and Tips” within the products to reduce the paper consumption compared with traditional printed manuals. We have now compressed the content of paper manuals to a minimum level within compliance range and gradually covered all categories of products starting from PC and wearable products. In 2024, it is estimated that a total of about 110 million A4 sheets of paper will be saved through electronic instructions, which is equivalent to reducing 454.89 tons of carbon emissions.
The longer the product is used, the less resources it consumes. In China, the median replacement cycle for HONOR phones is 25.4 months, which is higher than the average replacement cycle for Android phones in the Chinese market.
Learn MoreRigorous testing standards for various scenarios
For mobile phone products, we have established professional reliability labs to simulate the use scenarios of mobile phones and test the reliability of the devices and components with strict standards. Such tests cover performance in waterproof, dustproof, shockproof, bending, twisting and soft pressure. This is to ensure that our products adapt to various extreme weathers or abnormal scenarios.
For tablet products, we have designed and conducted extensive reliability tests on keyboards, stylus pens and other accessories in a variety of use scenarios. We test performance such as bending, torsion, drop and splash resistance. According to the test results, our tablets have achieved industry-leading levels of bending resistance. For laptops, we conduct durability performance tests beyond industry standards to simulate multiple scenarios, including screen vibration wear, screen opening and closing durability, touch button tapping durability, high temperature and humidity, drop, shock, compression and pop-up camera durability. The aim is to ensure high reliability in complex use scenarios and a comfortable user experience.
With regard to smart wearable products, we have developed comprehensive reliability tests for earphones and watches in different use scenarios, including simulated running, bending fatigue durability, sweat and cosmetic corrosion, water resistance during swimming/diving, drop, and bump, to meet high user comfort requirements and support users in different scenarios.
By establishing a complete recycling and disposal mechanism for used phones, we offer users a variety of recycling solutions to encourage more users to join the circular economy plan, and improve the utilization rate of resources.
Learn MoreAs of 2024,we have collected and disposed about 2,439 tons of electronic waste through our own channels and achieved 100% compliant disposal of electronic waste.
Used phone recycling and disposal solutions
Build a reverse logistics recycling system based on the sales network, establish online and offline product recycling channels, and provide users with recycling services that include used phone evaluation, professional quality inspection, user data clearing, etc.
Place recycling bins in some service stores as to provide a transparent, safe, environmentally friendly and efficient product recycling method.
Recycle not only HONOR but other brands’ products.
Launch refurbished phone projects in Europe and the returned equipment from e-commerce in five European countries will be refurbished and resold, while adhering to quality commitments to achieve a closed loop of consumer experience. In 2024, we completed the program iteration in the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, allowing consumers to experience a better trade-in experience.
waste treatment system
For old parts with potential use value, we try to reuse them by returning them to the factory for repair and transforming them into internal assets. such as using some adapters for manufacturing testing, to fully explore the recycling value of waste.
For parts with no more use value, a special supplier certification working group will supervise to ensure that suppliers handle waste in compliance with regulations and minimize potential environmental pollution.
We have launched recycling and disposal systems in China and overseas regions such as Europe, the Middle East and Africa, basically covering Honor's global market. This proactive approach aligns with global environmental protection policies on electronic waste such as the Basel Convention, the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) of the EU, and the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) policy in Germany and France, ensuring the compliance of product waste treatment and exploring the possibility of resource recycling.
On the basis of meeting the requirements of international standards, we has set higher corporate standards.
Learn MoreSince 2016, the use of hazardous substances has been reduced by approximately 5,096 tons.
We continued to conduct comprehensive, systematic, and transparent process management system for hazardous substances and received certification for the QC 080000 Hazardous Substance Process Management (HSPM) system.
We have set up an environmental laboratory certified by the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS), equipped with professional equipment covering chromatography, spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. We have built industry-leading environmental compliance and allergen detection capabilities to ensure the lifecycle environmental protection of HONOR products. In 2024, we have completed the potential allergen screening and chemical testing for 105 materials, effectively protecting consumer health and reducing the environmental impact of our products.
We have achieved halogen-free power cables for all mobile phones and tablets, which greatly reduces the negative impact on the environment.
In 2024, we gradually increased the use of clean energy in our operation, resulting in a total usage of over 17 million kWh of clean energy and a gradual increase in the usage ratio to 13%. A thousand miles starts with a single step. We will continue to promote energy conservation, emissions reduction, and the use of clean energy to achieve our corporate’s carbon neutrality goal at the operational level.
We have implemented various green management measures in our offices and stores to achieve carbon neutrality and fulfill our environmental responsibilities. We actively manage energy-saving, conduct five-level inspections, optimize the operation of air conditioners, fans, lighting, and other equipment, and implement intelligent control transformations of cold source systems. These measures saved 2.5 million kWh of electricity annually. In 2024, we aim to reduce per capita electricity consumption in the office park by 8% compared to 2023.
Honor is committed to provide a green and environmental friendly working environment for employees, and has considered environmental protection during office location selection, decoration, furniture selection, and daily operation. Furthermore, we are actively exploring the possibilities in increasing the use of renewable energy and reducing the carbon emissions of campus.
Learn MoreWe have considered environmental protection design when selecting office locations. For example, Beijing office is located in Vanke Lake International which has obtained the LEED Gold certification, and Shenzhen office is based in New Generation Industrial Park which has obtained the Two-Star Green Building Evaluation Label.
We adopt strict environmental protection standards when selecting office furniture: the furniture shall use materials that meet with E0-class environmental standards. Before the office is put into use, a third-party professional company is arranged to conduct office air treatment and environment tests. The office can be put into actual use only when the air quality test is passed.
We have incorporated energy-saving requirements into the design and construction of campus at the planning stage. For example, we have set up energy monitoring and management systems, such as the advanced building automation system, chiller plant control system, air compressor group control system, and energy management system in HONOR Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park in Pingshan District, which ensures efficient operation of various equipment and facilities.
During daily operation, we actively carry out energy conservation and consumption reduction activities and continuously optimize the operation and management of facilities by establishing energy ledgers and monitoring and analyzing energy consumption data to reduce energy consumption.
